The fat-freezing procedure is safe and effective.
Gone are the days of having to go under the knife to tighten up. Non-invasive therapies such as CoolSculpting—a non-surgical cooling treatment that banishes stubborn fat— promises to perfect your body without ever breaking the skin. You can be in, out, and back to work after your lunch break in a matter of minutes.
While non-invasive procedures are increasing in popularity, CoolSculpting isn’t exactly a magic weight loss elixir—but it can be effective for the right type of person.
During a CoolSculpting treatment, an RN places an applicator onto your problem area and it “sucks” up a bulge of skin, working to freeze fat below the surface. CoolSculpting is FDA-approved for the chin area, thighs, abdomen, bra and back areas, underneath the buttocks, and upper arms.
During the treatment, you might feel an initial suction and coldness, but it quickly fades to numbness. After the application, manual massage works to break up frozen fat cells which then die, and are eventually eliminated via your body’s normal processes. CoolSculpting removes 10 to 20 percent of the fat targeted with each treatment. Two treatments per problem area are recommended, as the first treatment is said to ‘de-bulk’ and the second is to ‘sculpt’ the area.
In the days following, you might be slightly sore—as if you exercised the area you had treated. The process takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and you can go back about your day afterward. Most people see results—say, a reduction in a jiggly area or slimmed down outer thighs—in one to three months. The biggest benefits are the lack of anesthesia, downtime, and the non-invasive nature of the process. That means less time for recovery (no need to take a day off) and you’ll be awake as it happens.
